The Bible account is very simple, at the creative command of God, the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them appeared instantly. A mere six days saw the change from "without form and void" to a lush planet teeming with fully matured creatures and plant forms. Then God "rested" stopping to celebrate, to enjoy. The beauty and majesty of those six days would be remembered forever, because of His stopping to rest.

Let us take a look at the Bible's account of the beginning: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." The earth was shrouded with water and darkness:

On the first day, God separated the light from the darkness, calling the light "day" and the darkness "night."

On day two, God divided the waters separating the atmosphere from the water clinging to the earth, making conditions suitable for life.

On the third day, God gathered the waters together into one place, establishing land and sea. Then God clothed the naked shores, hills and valleys; the land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds, and trees bearing fruit with seeds in them according to their kind. (Genesis 1:12).

On the fourth day God established the sun moon and stars, for signs and seasons, and for days and years. The sun was to govern the day, and the moon the night. Genesis 1:14-16.

God fashioned the birds and marine life on the fifth day. He "created them according to their kind" Genesis 1:21; an indication that the creatures He created would consistently reproduce after their own kinds.

On the sixth day God made the higher forms of life, He said "let the earth bring forth the living creatures according to its kind; cattle and creeping things and beast of the earth, each according to its kind." (Genesis 1:24). Then the crowning act of creation, "God made man in His own image, in the image of God created He them" (Genesis 1:27). "And God saw everything that He had made and behold it was very good" (Genesis 1:31).

By the word of God the heavens were made and all the host of them, by the breath of His mouth" (Psalm 33:6). How did this creative word operate? "God said" Introduced the dynamic divine command responsible for the majestic events of the six days of creation; Genesis :3,6,9,11,14,20,24). Each command came charged with a creative energy that transformed a planet "without form, and void" into a paradise. "He spoke and it was done, He commanded and it stood fast" Psalm 3333:9. Truly, the worlds were framed by the word of God" Hebrew 11:3. This creative word was not dependent on pre-existing matter; "by faith we understand that the universe was formed by God's command, so that what is seen was not made of what was visible" Hebrew 11:3. Though at times God did use pre-existing matter - Adam and the beast were formed from the dust of the ground, Eve was formed from one of Adam's ribs. Genesis 2:7,19,22. Ultimately God created all matter.

. The days of the Bible creation account signify literal 24 hour periods. The Bible said "the evening and the morning were the first day" etc. Genesis 1:5,8,13,19,23,31 - specifies individual days with the day beginning at evening, or sunset. Leviticus 23:32; Deuteronomy 16:6.

After the creation of man on the sixth day of the week God reviewed everything that He had made, and He said it was very good. He called one more day into existence, which He called the "Seventh Day" On that day He "rested" , Then He blessed and sanctified that day making it a Sabbath or rest day, (Genesis 2:2,3). He set that day in motion as a memorial of his creative acts (Exodus 20:8 11).

It was God who created all things- for His glory; and it is God who sustains all things. "He covers the heavens with clouds, He prepareth rain for the earth, He maketh grass to grow on the mountain. He gives to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry." He upholds all things by His word, and in Him all things consist (Psalm 147:8,9; Job 26:7-14; Colossians 1:17; Hebrew1:3. God's creative power is involved not only in creation, but in redemption and restoration. God recreates hearts. We are His workmanship. The Bible says: "if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation." God, who hurled the many galaxies across the cosmos, uses that same power to re-create the most degraded sinner into His own image. 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:10. He can recreate each one of us. Let us allow Him to do it today.

My prayer is that you would give your life to God so that He can recreate it into His image.
